Neville McManimm
Neville’s introduction to Lamington National Park was in December 1964. He went for a holiday at Binna Burra Lodge and in the words of his father, “He never came home”. That is not to say he got lost, but from then on he became a keen bushwalker who never seemed to be home on weekends.
He has been a member of bushwalking clubs in south east Queensland and has led many off-track walks and also organised coach trips to showcase the history of our area.
During the 1970’s he was on the staff at Binna Burra Lodge and led one, two and three day hikes throughout Lamington.
Over the years his interests have extended beyond Lamington National Park.
Neville is a member of the Royal Geographical Society Queensland and is on their Map Group committee. He has led three day excursions for the Society.
He is Past President and a member of the Canungra & District Historical Association.
As an amateur historian he has delved into Aboriginal Stories, Early Australian Exploration and its White Settlement. He has, in part, followed the tracks of Alan Cunningham, Ludwig Leichhardt, Thomas Mitchell, Charles Sturt and John McDouall Stuart. This has led to presentations at Bushwalking Clubs, Local Libraries, the Royal Geographical Society Qld, NPAQ, NPWS and others.
